Bespoke - what is that? / by Maker d+a

Architects love using the term ‘bespoke’. But what is THAT? LET’S BREAK IT DOWN...

Option A

Go to Woolworths, buy a good quality off-the-hanger suit; feel satisfied that it meets your quality standards and practical needs.

Option B

Take your Woolworths suit to a local tailor and get it taken-in to fit you a little better - feel confident that you’ll look well presented.

Option C

Go to a master tailor and have a suit custom-made to your unique measurements and requirements; know that you’ll look killer in it.

These options frame the different levels of design purchases that one can make. On one end is a quality, but stock-standard range that is mass produced and easy to source. On the other end is high-quality and custom-made product that is one-of-a-kind (bespoke). Bespoke = custom-made (made from scratch to your specifications

This isn’t to say that a standard off-the-shelf suit is wrong. It’s just the product of a buyer’s taste and budget.

When considering the person that you are, which option suits your look and lifestyle best? And what would you expect to pay? The bespoke option is not cheap, but it’s an investment into you. There is also an unspoken guarantee that you’ll love the end product and look good in it. And it’s the same with bespoke architecture.
